How do LABRAINS products differ from other cosmetic products?

What makes LABRAINS different from other skincare brands? In this video, LABRAINS founder Dr. Līga Brūniņa explains the philosophy behind our biomimetic dermocosmetics – why long-term skin health matters more than short-term effects, how ingredient choices impact sensitive skin, and why barrier-respecting skincare is at the core of everything we create.
A conversation about skin resilience, tolerance, and intelligent formulation design for sensitive, reactive, and ageing skin.

What Makes LABRAINS Different From Other Skincare Brands?

The skincare market is filled with products promising quick results, but for sensitive, reactive, or stress-impacted skin, immediate comfort is not always enough. Long-term skin resilience, barrier stability, and compatibility with the skin’s biology matter just as much.

Many traditional dermocosmetic products rely heavily on synthetic ingredients designed to provide immediate relief or create a protective layer on the skin. For example, mineral oils are commonly used for dermatitis-prone skin because they help reduce water loss by covering the skin surface. However, mineral oils do not mimic the skin’s natural lipids and do not actively support the skin’s own renewal processes. Instead, they function more like an external coating.

LABRAINS focuses on supporting the skin’s long-term function and resilience rather than only creating short-term cosmetic improvement.

Designed for Sensitive and Problematic Skin

LABRAINS develops biomimetic skincare for:

  • sensitive skin;
  • rosacea-prone skin;acne-prone skin;
  • dermatitis tendencies;
  • stress-affected and ageing skin.

Unlike some natural skincare brands, LABRAINS does not focus solely on “natural” positioning. The brand evaluates how ingredients interact with the skin barrier, microbiome, and long-term skin comfort. The goal is to create formulations that help the skin remain balanced and comfortable over time.

Why Ingredient Selection Matters

The brand also pays close attention to ingredients that may contribute to irritation or long-term skin sensitivity, even if they are widely accepted in cosmetics.

In the video we reference ingredients such as:

  • benzoic acid;
  • sodium benzoate;
  • ethylhexylglycerin;
  • alcohol.

While commonly used in skincare, these ingredients may sometimes contribute to dryness, redness, micro-irritation, and increased skin reactivity in sensitive skin types.

LABRAINS aims to reduce unnecessary irritation load while maintaining effective and stable formulations.

Long-Term Skin Health Instead of “Quick Fix” Skincare

One of the core differences behind the LABRAINS philosophy is the focus on long-term skin wellbeing.

This includes supporting:

  • the skin barrier;
  • microbiome balance;
  • skin comfort;
  • natural renewal processes;
  • resilience against environmental stress.

This approach is particularly important for reactive skin, where overly aggressive skincare routines often create a cycle of irritation followed by recovery.

Instead of overwhelming the skin, LABRAINS focuses on helping it maintain stability and tolerance over time.

Not Built Around One Universal Solution

LABRAINS also acknowledges that no skincare product works identically for everyone – especially when dealing with conditions such as dermatitis, rosacea, or acne. Product development is therefore based on continuous testing and gradual expansion of solutions for different skin needs.

The goal is not to create a universal “miracle product,” but to formulate skincare that feels compatible, supportive, and comfortable for as many sensitive skin users as possible.
