Turn Your Daily Cleansing Ritual Into a Science-Backed Skin Treatment

Discover the LABRAINS Cleansing Cream

LABRAINS Cleansing Cream is a next-generation, surfactant-free cleanser designed for all skin types, especially sensitive, dry, or mature. It not only removes impurities and makeup but also acts as a skin treatment, protecting the barrier and supporting the microbiome.

How it works and why

Each key ingredient is supported by research and technical data:

Beet-derived betaine – a natural osmolyte that helps skin cells balance water, even under stress from UV or dehydration. In a 4-week clinical study on 40 volunteers, 3% betaine significantly reduced TEWL (transepidermal water loss) already after 3 days, with the effect lasting beyond the treatment period. It also strengthens tight junctions between skin cells, improving cohesion and resilience of the barrier.

Hydrolyzed jojoba esters – multifunctional emollients with film-forming properties that extend hydration and improve barrier recovery. Clinical data on related esters show that they can reduce visible erythema (redness) more effectively than petrolatum or dimethicone (commonly used benchmark ingredients, though they may disrupt deeper skin layers with long-term use). At the same time, these esters increase water resistance in sunscreens and extend the residence time of actives on the skin. This makes them especially valuable for sensitive or redness-prone skin.

Lactobacillus ferment – a probiotic-derived peptide complex that provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection by releasing natural bacteriocins. Unlike traditional preservatives, it’s microbiome-friendly and multifunctional: in a moisturization study, 2% Lactobacillus ferment increased skin hydration by 14% after 24 hours and 25% after 4 weeks. So while it keeps the product safe, it also actively improves moisturization and supports healthy skin flora.

Cyclodextrins & sorbitol – cyclodextrins act like tiny sponges, encapsulating and lifting impurities and pollutants from the skin surface without needing harsh surfactants. Sorbitol helps retain moisture, making the cleansing process gentle and hydrating.

Skin-friendly emollients and antioxidants (triheptanoin, sunflower oil, tocopherol) – these lipids replenish the barrier and supply antioxidant protection while cleansing.

Together, this system not only removes dirt and makeup but also works like a skin treatment: reducing redness, reinforcing the barrier, locking in hydration, and protecting the microbiome.

How to use

  1. Apply a small amount to dry skin (face, neck, eyes closed).
  2. Massage for 30–60 seconds.
  3. Remove with a cotton pad or rinse with lukewarm water.
  4. For sunscreen, long-wear makeup, or city grime: do a second gentle pass.

Pro tip: If your skin is very dry or reactive, remove with a damp cloth and only a splash of water to keep more of the comforting lipids on the skin.

Texture & finish

  • Creamy, cushiony glide — no foam, no film, no tightness.
  • Leaves skin supple and balanced, ready for your serum or cream.

Seasonal tips & life hacks

  • Winter / wind season: Massage a little longer, then partially rinse to leave a protective veil. Follow with your barrier cream. (Betaine’s long-term TEWL reduction is especially helpful in cold, dry air.)
  • Summer / sunscreen days: Double-cleanse with two light applications rather than scrubbing once. Jojoba esters help lift water-resistant filters without stripping.
  • Post-workout: Cleanse immediately after training to remove sweat and pollution — no need for harsh surfactants.
  • Travel & flights: Use on dry skin, remove with a damp cotton pad when water access is limited; it keeps skin comfortable in low humidity (thanks to betaine).
  • Baby-gentle care: The minimalist, fragrance-allergen-free, surfactant-free base and the inclusion of jojoba esters — commonly used in baby-care — make this a family-friendly option for body and face. For infants, do a small patch test, avoid the eye area, and consult your pediatrician for babies under three months.
  • Mature or very dry skin: Use as your morning cleanse to refresh without disrupting overnight lipids; at night, try a longer massage for comfort.
